This Hub has been written to answer a request sent in by Baby_lips. She asked: Where do I find filet crochet patterns or charts, especially vintage, for any type of filet crochet?
Fortunately patterns and charts are still available for filet crochet designs. Crocheters can find printed materials and downloadable or printable patterns.
Vintage Filet Crochet Patterns & Charts
Second Hand Stores--second hand stores sometimes include a magazine or book section and these may be a treasure trove for vintage filet crochet patterns or vintage filet crochet charts. I've found some good filet crochet patterns by checking for vintage crochet books.
The Library--a local library may also offer books on filet crochet, which include pictures of filet crochet pieces or photos of patterns. Experienced crocheters might choose to use the pictures to create their own filet charts. Because filet crochet is a series of open and closed squares, it is reasonably easy to work from a visual of a pattern by simply counting the number of squares.
Back Issues of Crochet Magazines--one method I've used in the past is to order back issues of crochet magazines. As I mentioned in one of my crocheting Hubs, I did this with Magic Crochet magazine because I was so impressed with their patterns.
If you decide to go this route, it might prove helpful to include a note, requesting vintage filet crochet patterns or to request back issues that include filet crochet patterns.
Back issues are usually offered at reduced prices, so this is an ideal way to collect filet crochet patterns and charts.
It is my hope that these resources will prove helpful. Many filet crochet patterns are available so crocheters can still make beautiful crocheted items using filet crochet.

Filet Crochet--Filet crochet is the perfect medium for working scenes and symbols into crocheted work. It's surprisingly easy to incorporate flowers, leaves and stems, fruit, animals, lettering and geometric designs.
I adapted a pattern for a vintage table centerpiece into the valance you see above. I used half the pattern and changed the design somewhat to make the curtain. I then added crystals to make it unique.
Vintage Filet Crochet Online--there are a number of sites online that offer vintage filet crochet patterns and charts. I will list these below.

Piecework magazine often has filet charts. They have an annual lace issue that usually includes some filet as well. I love charts--so much easier for me to keep my place, as I am a very visual learner.
