Great hub you have here Athlyn Green. My husband has been a follower of Russian History and often talks about Rasputin, and his seeming indestructibility...but your hub has given lots of insight about what this person was like and how he influenced Russian history so significantly.

Well, some of this is true, but if you read the new book, "Rasputin and The Jews: A Reversal of History", you will see that the aristocracy hated him for helping the severely oppressed Jews, who were denied any civil rights, including education, occupation of choice, or even where to live. Not to mention which the Romanovs sanctioned regular raids where entire villages of Jews were tortured and slaughtered. Rasputin was horrified by this and the 'supporters' that he sought to get into office were people who promised to advocate equal rights for all minorities, as well as peace (since he was anti-war). In fact, if the Tsar had listened to Rasputin, and given everyone equal rights, the revolution might have been avoided. Rasputin had nothing to do with the revolution and was dead months before it happened. The revolution happened because the workers and peasants were tired of being underfed, overworked and treated like animals, while the aristocracy lived the high life. In 1905, before Rasputin had any influence, there had been another revolution for the same reason.

Remember that the Romanovs had the blood of many innocent people on their hands, because of prejudice and hatred, while Rasputin was a healer and never harmed nor killed a soul in his life.

He was an enigmatic figure and had so much influence on the Russian royal family that he changed history forever. Had it not been for him, the rise of Communism may have been avoided.
