Why Bother Linking to Other HubPages, Using Tracking Tokens?

Link to others' HubPages, making sure that your link includes your tracking token and you stand to earn (9-12% total impressions) more from HubPages.

Once you've joined HubPages, you should take advantage of all the different methods to earn the most for your efforts at HubPages.

In a recent Hub, I discussed how to refer others to HubPages so that you earn more when others sign up for HubPages.

Another way to boost your earnings is to link to others' HubPages. When you link to other HubPages you spread the Hub love but, more importantly, you receive a share of the impressions those pages generate.

People may do not choose to link to others' Hubs from within their Hubs because they want visitors to stay on their pages. And alternative might be to add links to others' Hubs at your other sites. While admittedly, this diverts traffic, you earn revenue by spreading the Hub love.

How to Find Links that Include Your Tracking Tokens

How Do you Link to Others' HubPages With a Link That Includes Your Tracking Token?

When you link to other HubPages you MUST include your tracking token. How to do this?

  1. First of all, sign in to HubPages
  2. Type in a search query into the search box at the top and to the right of the page. In this example, lets go with "parrots." A page opens showing parrot-related articles. Now, the first article is: Parrots and Metal Poisoning. Lets say you want to link to this article. Click on its blue title, so that the page opens that contains the article.
  3. Scroll to the bottom right of the page and click on: link to this page. When you click on it, a box will pop up that provides Link Text, A URL with you tracking token included, and HTML code.Make sure your tracker is showing before linking. Now you can choose either the URL or the HTML. Click on this. It will "bold," right-click your mouse and hit copy, then paste it into wherever you want to link to it.
  • If you are linking from a HubPage, you will probably want the URL. How to hyperlink it? It's not hard. Grab the anchor or link text and paste it where you want it to appear. Now run your mouse over the link text; go to the top of your text box and click on the horizontal chain icon that's right next to the upside down U. A small box will open that's entitled: Insert/edit link. Where is says: Link Url, insert your cursor into the box. Right-click and viola! your previously copied link should appear.
  • Underneath, where it says 'target,' click on the downward pointing arrow. A drop down menu will give you two options: 'open link in same window,' 'open link in new window.' Choose the last one by clicking on it with your mouse, then on the lower left click on 'insert.' If all things are working as they should your link text should now turn blue.
  • If you are linking from a blog page, you simply copy/paste the HTML into your blog post and once you hit publish, the link shows up with the phrase "parrots and metal poisoning," already hyperlinked, with your tracker embedded.

Note: make sure your tracker isn't actually showing because someone else could grab it.

How do you Benefit from Linking to Other HubPages?

When you send traffic to others' Hubs, via links that include your tracking token, you’re entitled to either 9% or 12% of total impressions.

You can point to other Hubs, using the techniques in this article and including the URL with your tracker. If you link within a HubPage to another article, try to include one that is relevant to your subject matter.

No, ranking and impressions are separate things.

As far as I know, HubPages does not have a signature capsule.

A lot of the linking in hubpages was kinda not fully understood by me. Thanks for answering some of my questions.

Hi,

Yes, if you are including a link to someone's HubPage, make sure you first sign in, so that when you go to the bottom of the page to grab the URL or the HTML code, it will have your tracking number included. When someone visits that page, you receive a pecentage.

Traffic and links can help to improve Hub scores.

I'm not aware of a function where HubPages allows for a signature or a trackback to your blog or site; however, a good strategy is to include your blog feed as I've done on this page to my blog "Write and Earn a Living," similar to a site parsing your last post and pointing to it, a feed points to a number of blog posts.

Let me know how you make out.

Hi Athlyn,

I liked your hub and wanted to make sure I understand what you are saying about linking to other HubPages. So from what I understand from your comments when I write articles I should actually try and include what others have written and by doing so it will give my article better ranking. Is impressions the same thing as ranking?

Maybe you can also answer this question. Other blogs allow you to add a Signature where you can add a URL and it will be added to your comments. I don't see that same thing in HubPages. Do you know if we can add a Signature in HubPages?
