Doris Bither: Victim of Spectral Rape?
82Ghostly Sex . . . ?
Was Doris Bither raped by demons or was her case one of poltergeist activity sparked by her own turbulent background, unresolved issues, and emotional turmoil?
Doris Bither's brush with the paranormal took place in the 1970s. At the time, she was a single mom living in Culver City, California with her four children.
Doris was purportedly attacked and raped by a violent entity. Her children (1 daughter and 3 sons) were also party to the events in their home.
According the Dr. Barry Taft (and her sons), Doris had experienced paranormal phenomena prior to moving into the rundown house on Braddock Drive. but events events escalated, which, in turn, sparked investigations that rocked parapsychologists who witnessed compelling phenomena in her home.
Barry Taff Describes Events at Doris' House
A Warning and Dabbling With an Ouija Baord
Doris moved from Santa Monica into the ramshackle house at 11547 Braddock Dr.
Soon after, an elderly Mexican woman knocked at her door and warned Doris that the house she'd moved into was evil. According to journals kept by Javier Ortega, the woman told Doris: "You need to get out! I used to live here in this old house, back when it was just a farm and I was a little girl. There is something very evil here. This place is haunted and you need to get out!”
Doris' son, Brian Harris, has related that his mother started experimenting with an Ouija Board and held seances in her early years and would later mix this activity with drugs and alcohol. It is apparent she was battling personal demons but what sparked the malevolent activity in the house at Braddock Drive?
- Was the house already haunted?
- Did dabbling with an Ouija Board invite something evil into the house?
- Was Doris' turbulent frame of mind powerful enough to project out Psi energy?
Possible Explanations for the Paranormal Activity Around Doris
As Dr. Taff postulates, it may be possible that a person’s subconscious mind generates enough energy on some level to produce luminous anomalies and apparitions. He feels this is far more probable than discarnate intelligence.
Recent theories about psychokinetic powers and poltergeist-type activity support the contention that a person's subconscious mind may play a part in what appears to be paranormal activity.
This would explain why Doris continued to experience similar activity in spite of moving repeatedly.

Compelling Case of Doris Bither Spawns Movie
The case of Doris Bither was so compelling that the movie, The Entity, was made about it. Interviews with researchers who were present and witnessed events in the house are particularly interesting and makes this one of the better paranormal movies available.

brill movie loved if that was based on a true story very scarie
athlyngreen - I would have loved to have read more details on the attack and how the attacks stopped...is there more to the story?
I didn't vote, but ONLY because no SINGLE response looked like it covered the bases. ALL OF THE ABOVE would have been my preferred option.
I've personally had some experience in that field, mostly from being dumb enough to deliberately dabble, especially during late 1972 and early 1973. Guess I should write a Hub about that--if I can force myself to 'fess up to the mistakes I made in the process.
Voted up, useful, and interesting.

Very interesting hub- now I really want to see the movie!
As Ghost said, I think that all of the choices in the poll could have contributed as a group to what happened to Doris.
