Ukrainian hotsput is a delicious easy-to-make casserole. You combine Ukrainian sausage, potatoes and vegetables, add in mushroom soup for a gravy, then top it with cheddar cheese for a taste feast.

Plan to make a large batch of hotsput because everyone will want to come back for seconds. This tasty casserole is a crowd pleaser and with a few time-saving tricks, can be made in record time.

Delicious Ukrainian Hotsput Casserole

Grease a large enamel casserole dish, then layer:

  • chopped onions
  • chopped or sliced potatoes
  • peas
  • corn
  • carrots
  • chopped green pepper (if you have it on hand)
  • sliced mushrooms
  • cubed Ukrainian sausage

Making Gravy for Hotsput

In a saucepan combine 2-3 cans of mushroom soup and water. Bring to a boil until smooth and slightly thickened. Add:

  • salt
  • pepper
  • garlic powder

Pour over vegetables in casserole dish. Cover and bake at 325-350 degrees until potatoes are just soft. Top with grated cheddar cheese and continue cooking uncovered until cheese is bubbly.

* Make sure that you use Ukrainian sausage. I've tried hotsput using other meat and it doesn't taste the same.
