Crocheted Slippers: Cozy & Comfortable Footwear to Ward off Winter's Chill
82Crocheted Slippers on Feet
Nothing beats the warmth of a pair of crocheted slippers.
These crocheted slippers deliver warmth and comfort and can be made in a couple of hours. Crochet is a good medium for making slippers because generally speaking crocheted fabric tends to have a stiffer texture, whereas knitted fabric is usually softer. Because you use a larger hook, stitches are bulkier which makes for durability + these make up quickly.
These slippers are a boot-style, as can be seen from the pictures, and with their cuff around the ankle, they do not slip off. They will be tight to slip on at first and this is intentional because when they stretch, they will still stay on.
While you can crochet these slippers using one yarn color, using different colored yarn for soles, toppers & cuffs, is an excellent use for all those bits of left-over yarn. I've found that the easiest way to make a number of these slippers is to simply make all your soles first. With that out of the way, you can add your next yarn color and work the toppers when you are in the mood to crochet. Before you know it, you will have produced many pairs of slippers.
I adapted this slipper pattern and used extra yarn on the soles so that the slippers are cushioned and wear longer. I added extra strands for the toppers, which also makes these slippers warmer.
This crochet slipper pattern is offered courtesy of Rhelena at Crochet 'N' Crafts. I've adjusted the pattern by adding extra yarn strands to both soles and toppers to make these crocheted slippers extra durable.
Once you get onto making these slippers, you will want to make more! Good for winter warmth and for gift-giving and so attractive looking. Can you spell cozy? You can, with crocheted slippers.

Crocheted Slipper Sole
The sole for these crocheted slippers can be worked in a different color from the topper. Use 4-6 strands of yarn so that slipper sustains wear & delivers warmth. Use regular Bernat yarn. If you use 6 strands use a smaller crochet hook, so that slippers are not overly large.
For larger slippers use size 7 crochet hook. For a smaller crocheted slipper use a size 5 crochet hook. Make one sole to gauge size and then make adjustments for each set of slippers you make.
*Yarn/hook size/tension can be adjusted to change slipper size.
First Three Rows: Work first three rows as indicted in pattern. The three rows form the slipper sole.

Forming Slipper Sides/toppers
Slipper Sides
Using three strands, work the next 10 rows of the pattern, using different yarn color to form your slipper sides/toppers.
If you work this pattern using different yarn colors, when you add a new color, carry the yarn end along the back of the work so you don't have to weave it in later.
I used three yarn strands for the sides for durability & warmth & a size 5 crochet hook.
* For smaller slippers, use a size 4 crochet hook.
These crocheted slippers work up in record time & make good practical gifts.

Making Crocheted Slippers Cuff

Turn slippers inside out &, using a smaller crochet hook, weave in any loose ends.

Note About Slipper Soles
Leather soles are also available for slipper-making. Leather slipper soles are a good idea for those who plan on extensive wearing of their slippers. Slipper soles come pre-punctured so that you can add the top part of the slipper to them. Leather Slipper Soles

These look warm and cozy! Is it possible to switch to a sport yarn and use a smaller hook to make them smaller for children? I'm out of practice so I thought I'd ask for your advice before I made a mess of things:)
These are great! Can't wait to try them! Thanks much!
Hi, these bring back memories. My great aunt used to make these for my kids when they were little. Its necessary for winter.
Great pattern, wonderful instructions. These slipper look invitinly warm, just right for a cold winter's day. Voted up, useful and bookmarked. I have to try the pattern.
Great pattern, thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!!
I love these! I'm moving next year to a colder place, so I'm bookmarking this so I can make some.
Thanks for the videos – and the videos on your other crocheting hubs - as well as the instructions. Knitting is no problem for me since as I learned how to knit as a child and have continued to knit - on and off – as an adult. I’ve only recently tried crocheting, though, and I don’t find it so easy. I’m going to try some of your patterns.
What cute slippers! One of the activities for grandparents and grandchildren that I just started with my grandkids is crocheting. We're not quite here yet, but soon. I'm bookmarking and tweeting this :)
This hub is so well put together - I've rated it 'awesome'. You really deserve your feature place!
Hope you have a good Christmas - and your feet stay warm.
Cool! I love crocheting, this is one of many fun slipper patterns out there! :)
Looks really nice, but seem hard to do! :P
What a super nice gift for Winter!
Hi, these bring back memories. My great aunt used to make these for my kids when they were little. Wish I could crochet!
A great idea for a gift. I love crochet, but I've never thought about making these cute items. Will definitely give it a go. The tutorials are good too. Thanks for sharing your information.
A great gift and crafting idea.

I've started making the soles of these slippers with 5-6 strands of yarn and the toppers with 3 strands. This makes these crocheted slippers durable, warm and cushy.
